Good Eats: Umamicatessen

Happy Thursday everyone!

When I'm on vacations, I usually have 1 goal: To eat good food. The older I've gotten, the more adventurous I am with food but also a little more selective. You'd be hard pressed to get me to eat anything out of a box these days. But put me in a good restaurant and I'll try anything under the sun. Food is one of the great loves of my life.

Anyways Rob is a burger man and I love a tasty burger too so Umami Burger is one of our favorite destinations. And long before Simply Evani was born, I blogged about our adventures in searching for Umami BurgerΒ in SF. So when google maps yet AGAIN led us astray and took us to a place called Umamicatessen, we were initially disappointed. But luckily, Umamicatessen is an Umami Burger and more, also featuring a kosher deli, a special pork menu AND fried to order doughnuts. I'm happy to report that after our meal, we weren't disappointed at all!

So hipster. Like all Umami locations πŸ™‚

Their onion rings are the crowning glory of sides. They are RIDIC.

I roughly have the taste buds of a man so onion stings, cheddar and chunks of bacon are RIGHT up my alley. The Manly burger is after my heart,

Their Dulce De Leche doughnut is SO yummy. Think churro in doughnut form.

Also, Umamicatessen is only a few streets down the the LA Fashion District so ladies, you can lure your man here for a meal and do a little shopping while you're in Downtown LA! More on Santee Alley to come.

I've heard a LOT of good things about Father's Office down in LA too, that's on our list for our next SoCal trip! Any other burger places you suggest? I'd love to have burger/food recommendations from all over the U.S.!

Hope you're salivating as much as I am now! Have a great day everyone!Β

Yeah absolutely! I'll be in town for graduation Saturday, but will probably be spending the day with Kurt and his family. I'll definitely be making trips to Davis this summer... to squeeze in my last bit of Davis Farmer's Market Saturday mornings.. I'm already feeling sad because it feels like I'm leaving Davis yet again! LOL BTW, let's oovoo with Chid sometime soon too!

Thanks Nicole! I know you're down in SoCal, are you an Umami fan? Also, just read that you're getting your Ph.D. in Psych, that's awesome! I'm hoping to go back to school for something Psych related so I feel like we have a lot in common πŸ™‚

      1. Yes, love Umami! Well, I've been twice and loved each time I went. How exciting that you're looking to go back to school for psych! Keep me updated. And I totally agree - we do seem to have a lot in common. So glad that I found your blog!

Oh good, I'm glad you love Umami too! What do you get?? And yea, I'll definitely let you know how schools go, I'm nervous to apply! What program are you in? I'm so happy you found it too! πŸ™‚

          1. I'm into organizational psychology, so I did my MA in Positive Organizational Psychology and my PhD concentration is Program Evaluation & Applied Research Methods. Trust me, I know that it sounds lame but I love it!

Uhm, I LOVE this whole psych geek talk going on right now! So cool, I think that's awesome you're passionate about a unique part of Psych. I'm definitely going the counseling route hopefully (I do research right now and I just KNOW it's not what I want to do) but I love meeting other Psych heads! πŸ™‚

  2. yes yes yes... Gotta try Father's Office πŸ™‚ Also Hodad's in San Diego (recommended by USCD students when i was with with them in Honduras), then if you're in Huntington Beach, Slater's 50/50 --> create your own burger. Can not beat that!
