Oh hai there.
Ever feel like you’re in that movie Click and that life remote is stuck in fast forward? Me too.
In the past 2 weeks:
- I turned the big 2-5.
- Rob and I signed our first official piece of paperwork together: A lease!
- We moved in and bought nearly all our furniture on craigslist.
- Took a birthday trip to Vegas.
- Watched Rob move 3 couches into our apartment.
- Made a real life budget. Then cried about it.
- Got a pet fish as a birthday present from my siblings! His name is Azul (but his nickname is Raul). I’m in love with him.
The night before my birthday, we were simultaneously packing for our 8 am flight to Vegas the next morning and dropping off boxes at the new apartment. When I got home, my Mom and sister had done this to my bedroom door.
We had a pretty lowkey to-do list in Vegas, mostly revolving around drinks, food and gambling. We spent a night over in old Vegas on Fremont Street, which was fun too. They have this amazing LCD screen ceiling that is worth the trip but it is a pricey cab ride (around $20).
For my birthday dinner, we knew exactly where we wanted to go. Bacchanal Buffet at Caesar’s Palace is a pricey ordeal ($49.99 for dinner) but it’s worth every penny. We’ve now been to 3 Vegas Buffets (Wicked Spoon and Paris Le Village Buffet too) and Bacchanal is the crowd pleaser. My favorite part? The warm, delicious, fresh pre-cracked king crab legs in hot butter. Their dessert bar is pretty spectacular too, with giant balls of mochi, macaroons and red velvet whoopie pies.
We also found the secret pizza spot in the Cosmo down an unmarked hallway with a pinball table at the end and it was SO delicious. And they serve their sodas in red solo cups so what more could you want?
The morning before our flight, I decided to play that wad of bills and a few hours later, I won a total of $175 at the Roulette tables! I wouldn’t say I’m a huge gambler because I refuse to play more than $20 at a time, but when I start winning, my heart starts pounding like a maniac and I get SO excited. Rob says I get a twinkle in my eye that makes him nervous. The good news is that I love to leave when I’m up, I hate waiting to lose to leave a table. And honestly, we gambled mostly to get the free drinks so I was pumped to leave with more money than I came with!
FYI, screwdrivers (vodka and orange juice) are totally my new drink of choice while gambling. You can have them at 11:00 am and still feel like you’re having breakfast.
Another FYI, if you have 3 screwdrivers before your 3 pm flight, you will take an hour long nap in an uncomfortable airport seat waiting for your flight and wake up feeling like you got hit by an 18 wheeler. Needless to say, Vegas and I parted as good friends but I was ready to head home.
When we got home from Vegas, it became a blur of moving boxes and perusing craigslist every hour. When we finally had enough furniture for people to come sit on, Rob invited our friends out for drinks and dinner to do a belated birthday celebration since I never actually blew candles out on my birthday. It was such a fun night and there were many laughs had and drinks consumed. Love you guys! Turning 25 was pretty eventful, especially since Rob and I are starting this new chapter in our lives, living together. Moving out of my family house was a big transition for me and I’d be lying if I didn’t say there were moments I really missed being “home”. But it was time for us to move forward in adulthood and I’m really glad we did. We love our new place and our neighborhood!
Considering that we’ve stopped picking up Craigslist furniture daily, I’m excited to get back into blogging and sharing my life with all of you! And now we’re in the heart of Sacramento nightlife and a walk away from foodie places galore, I just know we’ve got an exciting year ahead. Happy to have you following along with me!
Tell me something exciting that’s happened to you in the past 2 weeks!
