Happy Hump Day everyone!
For my baby brother’s 13th birthday, I made some football themed cupcakes to bring to his football practice for him and his team. I’m still just a beginner at cupcake decorating and agreeing to do 50 of these on a weeknight was a
mistake challenge. But I’m relatively happy with how they turned out!
For the frosting color I bought this kit and used Kelly green for the grass and Brown for the footballs (in hindsight, I should’ve just used chocolate frosting for the footballs). I used a Wilton #233 tip for the grass. For the footballs we used Wilton star tip 16 and for the laces we used Wilton round tip 3. The cupcakes were chocolate and the frosting was a homemade vanilla frosting. We hand frosted everything (as you can see from all the imperfections!
An hour before I had to deliver these bad boys, I had these dreams of creating uprights to sit on the cupcakes so I grabbed some yellow candy melts, put them in a ziploc bag, melted them and piped some uprights on a sheet of aluminum foil. My first set were too weak and I didn’t let them harden. The 2nd set I piped thicker (going over the lines multiple times) and I put them in the fridge for 20 minutes. Then I stuck them on the cupcakes! I also piped my brother’s football number #99. Next time, I would make the stems taller so they sat higher in the cupcakes.
After 4 straight hours of frosting, I didn’t have much energy left for styling them for photos. I always deeply regret that but eh, it’s real life! Not every baking project is going to be done in perfect sunlight on a beautiful plate. Sometimes it’s on my dining table under artificial light on an old baking sheet. Lol
How’s your week going so far? Whoooo watched the debate last night?
