So I was having such a great weekend in SF until I realized…my wallet was gone. Sunday after brunch, we were headed to the Alemany Flea Market when I peek into my purse and realize my wallet is missing. We retraced all our steps from the point I remember having it (Umami Burger, Muka Wine Bar, the hotel and San Jalisco for brunch) but no luck. I was SO upset. Especially because the LAST place I lost my license was San Francisco a year ago so SF has claimed 2 of my licenses! Bah humbug. Our last hope is Muka which isn’t open Sun or Mon, so Tuesday at 6 pm we’ll be calling just to check! But my hopes are low. Besides that SF, was wonderful and I’ll probably be recapping it later this week.
Luckily for me, I have my passport to serve as ID for my flight to Utah tonight. I’m excited to be on vacation for the next 6 days but the loss of my wallet will definitely hang over my head a little. I’m going to try to shake it off as best I can since there’s likely nothing I can do about it! I’m also a little nervous because this is my longest flight by myself and I don’t really like doing anything solo. But I will be cheering my brother and his team on in Utah, so I decided last night to do a festive accent nail for Mani Monday!
Essie: Peach Daquiri for the nails and Target: Sinful Colors for the baseball
Link up today!
First of all, I must give credit where credit is due so let it be known that Rob helped me with this manicure! I was feeling frustrated with the red stitching and honestly this was probably the 7th time I put the white base on but I love how it turned out! Turns out he has quite the steady hand! Haha I swear the things I ask that poor man to do, he is a SAINT. He’ll probably be sorry that he let me in on his nail art skills.
I’ve also grown quite partial to the SUPER cheap Sinful Colors section at Target. The nail polishes are only $1.99 and the white was actually really thick and covered well. I’ll definitely be buying more of those for nail art and accent nail colors!
Happy Monday loves!
Ever have one of those weekends where it just feels like sheer perfection? For me, our weekend in Windsor was just that! My brother’s team won 1 game each on Saturday and Sunday so we had the luxury of spending 2 days and 1 night in Wine Country. While we spent all of that time with 14 pre-teen boys and none of it wine tasting, it was impeccable weather and sheer bliss relaxing. I will certainly be returning for some wine tasting soon, it was too beautiful to pass up!
The Hilton Sonoma Wine Country was beautiful and so gracious to a huge group that included way too many rowdy boys. My favorite part by FAR was the pool (pictured above). We spent our entire Saturday afternoon lounging on the most comfortable pool cushions , taking naps and enjoying the scenery. The only thing that would’ve made it better is a glass of wine or two! Yeah, since it was family friendly (and my parents don’t drink) I didn’t indulge in a single glass while in wine country. Next time for sure I also want more pictures of wineries, we drove by some beautiful ones!
I think I’m falling more in love with Northern California.
Also, my little brother pitched like a BOSS, 6 innings and getting the Win versus one of the hardest teams! So proud!
How was your weekend? I hope you had a good one
Happy Monday! (Hey, it’s a short week so I’m happy it’s Monday!)
Happy Friday all!
I’m so happy Friday is here! I’ve been lucky enough to have a few days off but I feel like I have even MORE to do when I’m not working my 9-5. I ran a ton of errands, spent that Ulta coupon and had a lovely dinner and happy hour with friends (Love ya Vick!). Here’s to setting goals (a la Tuesday’s entry) and living by them!
So for my brother’s baseball party, we decided to try a recipe I pinned from Sugar Cooking for Chocolate Cupcakes with Salted Caramel frosting. I was successful at the cake recipe but was completely defeated by the icing. I have no idea what went wrong but after an hour (and 2 bags of powdered sugar) of working on just the frosting, I had to give up. However it was by far one of the best chocolate cake recipes I’ve made and it was unbelievably easy!
Since I was going to use store bought frosting (insert crying here), I decided to spend extra time on the decorating. On the baseballs, I used the Betty Crocker cream cheese frosting and red candy melts in a piping bag to do the stitches. For the fields, I dyed the cream cheese frosting green for “grass” and used chocolate frosting for the diamond.
To add something extra to the party, we threw in some of our well-loved red velvet cake pops. I hope to make them again in the future but with more delicate piping (I just was not at the top of my game by the end!).
Just so everyone knows it’s not all sunshine and rainbows here at Simply Evani, I often find myself stressed out while baking because I’m such a perfectionist and its probably better for me to choose either a complex recipe OR intense decorating. I just wish I could let go of that Type-A side of me but I’m definitely an all or nothing person so I dive into any project wanting it ALL and 4 hours later, I hate my life. Haha anyone else a perfectionist baker?
This weekend, I will be out at the fields watching my brother play his All Star State Tournament in Santa Ana. Time to slather on the sunscreen and do some hardcore blog planning the old fashion way (aka pen and paper!). Do you have any plans for the weekend?
Happy Monday loves!
I hope everyone had a wonderful Father’s Day weekend! We spent the weekend doing what my dad treasures most, which is watching my brother play baseball. He even pitched a shut out (meaning no one scored the whole game!). I couldn’t be a prouder big sis. Being close to my siblings is one of the greatest gifts in my life, even if we are years apart (8 years between my sister and I, 11 years between my brother and I).
After being tagged by A Night Owl on Instagram: Just my sister and I at the fields!
Avengers Cake Pop Printables
I’ve received several lovely e-mails asking me about the printable flags I made for the Avenger cake pops so I decided I’d re-make them to share with anyone who wants them! I do want it known that none of the actual flag images were created by me (minus the resizing/cropping aspect) so if you choose to use these flags, please don’t use them for profit. (And if I find later on that this isn’t allowed, I might have to pull them down.)

Since I am offering these completely free, if you do use them, all I ask is that you take a picture, credit it back to SimplyEvani.com and share it with me on Facebook, Twitter or e-mail. I love seeing them come to life!

For anyone interested in making them similar to the way I made mine, I backed my flags with colored cardstock to make them more rigid and used E600 glue to adhere them to the short lollipop sticks I found at Jo-Ann’s Craft Store.
Father’s Day Love
For Fasha’s Day, we bought my Dad the newest Ninja Blender and I recited an audio card (a.k.a. we didn’t buy him a card, he’s just not that into them). My Daddy isn’t much much of a sappy guy but he is the first man I ever loved, he makes the best packed lunches you will EVER taste and overall he’s a real life superhero in my eyes. Thank you for everything you do Daddy (if you ever read this blog, which I doubt you do)!
If you follow me on a twitter, you might’ve heard that I had a rough Saturday in the baking department. Let’s just say, I got in a fight with an icing recipe and the icing recipe won. My sister and I ended up churning out some pretty interesting desserts so come back tomorrow to see a new Simply Baking entry!
Have a good day everyone!
Since its conception, I’ve been an avid reader of The Beauty Department for their all around beauty tips, nail tutorials and hair advice.
When I saw this Chalk It Up blog post back in February, I instantly added it to my to-do list. This weekend, my family spent sunny days out on the baseball fields so it was time to layer up on sunscreen and give hair chalk a shot.
We bought this Loew and Cornell Chalk Pastel kit at Jo-Anns for $3 because the packaging was semi open and many of the sticks were partially broken. Considering it gave us 52 different colors of chalk, it was a steal! The Beauty Department recommends using soft pastels but chalk pastels worked just fine for us (whatever you do, don’t put oil pastels in your hair!)
Chalking your hair works best with updos or braids rather than just free flowing hair. We did a messy french braid in my sister’s newly layered hair (hence the flyaways) and picked a vibrant blue, purple and pink. We dipped the chalk in a small amount of water to bring out the pigment since she has dark brown hair (If you have blonde hair, do NOT wet the chalk!). Move the chalk against the hair, applying pressure to release pigment.
The finished product! A cute addition to any summer outfit.
To take out color, brush out as much of the chalk as you can, before hopping into the shower (if you brush vigorously, most if not all should come out). The Beauty Department recommends a clarifying shampoo and a good conditioning treatment to replenish the moisture in your hair (My sister just took a normal shower with a little extra conditioner and reported great results).
My brother’s team won their tournament after he pitched 6 innings with nearly all strike outs! He is such a super star and I couldn’t be more proud.
