The Birth of LGP

Happy Friday everyone!

So anyone that knows me, knows that I struggle with my weight. I'll be honest and say I don't typically post full body photos on the blog because there aren't a ton of them I like. My weight has been a work in progress all my life but especially so since my junior year of college (corresponding with the year I turned 21...coincidence? Lol). But I don't beat myself up about it too often, I am blessed with curves for days, a clear complexion and well behaved hair so I have plenty to be thankful for. And the fact is that I love GOOD food and I'm not inclined to play any sports so it's not a huge surprise to me that fitness is a struggle.

So when I noticed other bloggers struggling with their health and found myself inspired by ones who found success, I knew I wanted to create a link up from that. I didn't want a link up about gaining followers, and for that reason alone I don't even require you to follow me (or future co-hosts) to link up. It's not about that. At the end of the day, I just wanted a place for bloggers to vent, share and encourage each other to set fitness goals and follow them. And Let's Get Physical was born!

Since I've started Let's Get Physical, I can't say I've dropped 50 lbs. Or even 15 frankly. But I know that just by participating, I hold myself somewhat accountable. For the first time (probably in my life), I went a month without french fries (No-fry November!). I also drastically cut down at eating/snacking at night. At the beginning of this year, I made the life-altering decision to give up McDonalds french fries (for all you non-fast food eaters, you're like robots or something. Lol jk). I swear those things are dusted with cocaine because my body longs for them. But knowing I made a promise to the ladies who link up, I find strength in that. And I now understand that my journey in fitness might take days, months or years to achieve because it's about changing your lifestyle, not just your diet. So it's okay with me that I shed a tear when I get a whiff of the golden arches' fries (McDonalds DUH). It might take me a lifetime to stop wanting them but I know I can stick to my guns about it with the support of Let's Get Physical!

So I promise I didn't intend for this blog post to be an infomercial about LGP, it's just so deeply rooted in my own fitness journey that talking about it feels natural. I wanted to do something special for the ladies who linked up with Let's Get Physical in November so I decided it was the perfect time for a (kinda) surprise giveaway! Here are the contestants:

1. Melissa at Insert Sarcastic Remark Here
2. Brighton at Dear Brighton
3. Allie at A Day in A Joyful Life
4. Nina at Nina's Metamorphosis
5. Yen atΒ Green House on Top of the Hill
6. Betsy at Musings of a Museum Fanatic

Congrats Brighton! πŸ™‚ E-mail me your address so I can send it to you!

And please remember, Let's Get Physical isn't just for losing weight! It's for getting healthy, whether that's getting routine doctor's checkups or toning up for the summer, all fitness goals are welcome!

What is a fitness goal you'd like to cross off your list?

December's Let Get Physical link up will happen on Wednesday, December 5, 2012 with our very first co-host Melissa! Read up on this for how to join in the fun. We'd love to have you!

  1. You are beautiful inside and out, hon, and I love what you're doing with this link-up. Personally, I'd love to get into better shape myself. I've been blessed with a pretty good metabolism, but boy, they aren't kidding when they say things "shift" when you hit 40. I'd like to shift them all back with some weight-lifting. You've inspired me! xo

  2. I need to learn more about Let's Get Physical! I really need to hold myself accountable for my awful diet! And I love your comment about robots - I don't eat any fast food at all! But I do have a terrible pension for sweets!

  3. I LOVE this post!!! The fact that you celebrate your positives is absolutely awesome. We don't do that near enough...if at all.

Those little things you're doing, like dropping the fries for a month, build better lifelong habits than all the binge diets in the world. Keep up the good work.

I have that exact same water bottle in purple! And oh so proud of you for finding an inspiration and sticking with it! Love you Roomsky, Happy Friday πŸ™‚

  5. You hit it on the head, it's a lifestyle change! Keep chugging on it, you got this! By the way, nice comment about the fast food robots hahaha. I can't stand the people who say, "FAST FOOD? My body is a temple- I can't eat that." As if fast food was the late stages of untreatable syphilis.

  6. Good for you for making it a month without fries. I have a major addiction to them, and for the past couple years gave them up for Lent. So I completely understand the pain and suffering you went through!

  7. Love this. And I kick myself all the time for not linking up to LGP before, so I'm going to try to start... especially because I've been thinking more about blogging more about weight and food and health and body insecurities. Kinda weird that you posted this today, when I've literally been thinking for the last few hours about a "weight-related" blog post! We are TOO ALIKE, Nor Cal counterpart! πŸ˜‰ If I start baking, we'll basically be twins. Hope you have a great weekend ahead!

  8. That's wonderful that you are wanting to get healthier! You really are beautiful inside and out like Michelle said! πŸ™‚ If you want something bad enough you'll keep it up, so go you!!! Way to be awesome.

  9. 1. I need to start taking my health seriously. Every time I link up with LGP I always fail. It's like I don't even try. Next month will be different!
    2. I knew I should have linked up last month!! I love the idea of a surprise giveaway! Such a fun idea!
    3. Now I'm craving fast food fries. Did you know french fries are my favorite food? Yeah... not the best favorite food to have!

  10. So great that you are taking steps towards a healthier lifestyle! I am really bad in the evening about snacking... wine and carbs are my snacks of choice. πŸ˜› I have actually been trying to portion control the carbs by pouring a single serving into a bowl as opposed to eating the entire bag while I shop on the internet and read blogs. πŸ˜€

  11. I'm the same as you on full body pictures. It's hard to believe I posted one this summer when I first decided to make a change.

I'm thankful for this type of link up because there's no pressure. Thanks for having me as your first cohost. Now I must be off to work on my post. πŸ™‚

Also, congrats on No Fry November!!! I know that was hard. Heck just reading about it makes me want to go have some fries.

  12. That's amazing that you gave up McDonald's french fries - they are absolutely addictive. I have them all the time, and I always feel guilty afterwards. McDonald's (and any kind of sugary/fatty/unhealthy food) is definitely my weakness. It's great that you're getting involved in something that works on your fitness though - every little step and action counts!
